Mörsbachwirt: Theo’s rustic hut
Hidden pearls, they still exist. The Mörsbachwirt Alm (also called Theo’s rustic hut) in Donnersbachwald is one of those. Somewhat isolated, less well known, but those who know it will definitely come back.

From Haus Erna we drive out of the chaletpark in the directison of the Riesneralm valley station but we pass the valley station. A bit further, we then turn left slightly past hotel the Stegerhof into a gravel road (indicated by a parking sign with an arrow). We follow this gravel road for about 1.5 km so that we arrive at the summer car park. There we leave the car and continue on foot along the gravel road. Thus, after about 30 minutes’ walk we arrive at the Mörsbachwirt Alm. Here we stop to enjoy the beautiful scenery and to fortify the inner man (and women).
The Mörsbachalm circular hike
After that, there are several options. Either return to the car by the gravel road. Either continue up the mountain and hike via the also beautiful Oxenalm back to the summer car park. We ourselves choose the Mörsbachalm – Gstemmerscharte route. Before we leave, we take a picture of the hiking map that hangs outside. This one indicates that it is a medium-difficult walk and takes 3 hours but this seems like an underestimate to us. For us this hike took about 4 and a half hours. From now on, we simply follow the signposts. We pass the Jagdhütte, the Hintere Mörsbachalm, the Sonntagskarspitz, the Schwärzkarspitz. A good bit past the Schärzkarspitz, we take a right and descend back to the Mörsbachwirt.

Before you leave, it is best to take a photo of the hiking map at the Mörsbachwirt.

More information on the Mörsbachwirt can be found here.
The circular walk can be quite wet. So it is best to wear high walking shoes.
