Flowers on the Riesneralm

Tell me where the flowers are …

The Jagasteig is an insider's tip. The walk is not that long but does go uphill briskly at times. In season, you pass beautiful flowers and can enjoy amazing views. An absolute must.

The Jagasteig: walking among flowers with breathtaking views

Today, we make it easy for ourselves. We buy an up-and-down ticket for the Riesneralm cable car. Please note: the cable car is not open every day. Please verify opening hours in advance. We take the cable car from the valley station to the middle station. There we get off. Actually, we wanted to hike from the middle station to the Hochsitz but an insider told us that there is a much nicer path along the Jagasteig. We don’t turn a tip like that down, of course.

The Jagasteig is signposted at the exit of the cable lift. Leave by the left and walk behind Hotel Berghof. You mainly walk along a forest path. At some point you come to a junction. If you keep left, you will hike to Finsterkar Alm. We don’t. We follow the Jagasteig to the right. Gradually we leave the forest and enter lower vegetation. In the flowering season, beautiful flowers can be admired here.

From here it is enjoying … Enjoying the vegetation, the surroundings and the views. The climb is quite tough at times but every now and then we pass a bench to rest or a hunter’s cabin from where we can observe the surroundings.

First we pass the Riesnerkrispen, where we can take some nice pictures. We then walk along the barefoot path and pass some of the animals of the wooden animal park.

Along the way, there is quite a few attractions. Hotel Berghof, for example, has a mountain cinema (immediately on the left when you walk into the building). And swimmers can bring their swimming gear. At 1900 altitude, there is a heated panoramic swimming pool. The HochSeeSitz is also fun. Here, children can sail a raft, catch wooden fish, climb rocks, …

Too much to mention. More information can be found here and here. Enjoy.
