Purgg: pure romantics and delicious food

Purgg has something. It is a tiny village that is car-free. Everything is built around 2 churches and there is a beautiful view of the Ennstal. You can eat well there and there are some nice walks starting from here.

Purgg : pure romantics

Can you believe I took this picture myself?

This is Purgg all the way. A tiny village built around 2 centuries-old churches. The village is car-free. You have great views over the Ennstal and with Haus Krenn they have one of the best restaurants in the region. Timely reservations are a must as it is often fully booked.

Some walks are signposted at the car park at the entrance to the village. We choose the Gindlhorn & Martelnweg hike. We take a quick picture of the description and the map and hup, we are off.

We follow Almweg 289. A steep climb through rocky terrain takes us via the “Himmelsleiter” (ladder to heaven) to the high alpine meadow at the Schröflhütte. Here you have a beautiful view.

We walk more or less flat to the junction below the Grindlhorn. The climb to the Grindlhorn is short but tough and rewards us with stunning views.

We descend again to the crossroads and follow the signs downhill to Gasthof Dachsteinblick. On the way, we do a small detour to the “Kleine Hörndl” (a 5-minute diversion). We pass Gasthof Dachsteinblick and continue on the Marterlweg. This road used to be taken to go to church. At funerals, the coffin had to be carried all the way. Therefore, you will come across many small chapels on your way. Here people prayed and changed carriers. We walk steadily downhill past the many roadside chapels. At the junction in the forest, follow path 278 – relatively flat at the end – to Pürgg.
