The 6 lakes hike in Tauplitz is a topper
In Donnersbachwald, there is a lot to do. But it doesn’t stop there. There are also great opportunities in the surrounding area. Tauplitz’s 6 lakes hike is a great example. It is well worth the car journey to get there.
You can reach the starting point of this walk in two ways. Either you take the gondola in Tauplitz. Either you take the Alpenstrasse in Bad Mitterndorf. The Alpenstrasse is a toll road but is cheaper than the gondola (especially if you are with several people). We ourselves take the Alpenstrasse.

At the car park, the walking route is well signposted. There are several options. You don’t necessarily have to do all the lakes. You can shorten the walk or do it in full. If you do it in full, keep in mind that the hike to the last lake is pretty intense. Therefore, part of our group stays to enjoy the terrace of the alpine hut while the rest of the troupes works themselves up in sweat. At some places, there is opportunity for swimming. Swimmers don’t forget your swimming gear.

The splendour of this walk is hard to describe in words. You just have to have seen and experienced it.
