Bad Altaussee: what a lovely mountain lake
Sometimes life is defined by chance. Today we had planned a trip to Hallstatt. Unfortunately, we had left a bit late and that was not a good idea. After 2 rounds of touring to find a parking space, we gave up. Then we look for another activity …
Fate brought us to Bad Altaussee. We park on the spacious parking lot just in front of the church (payable). From the parking lot, a small pedestrian path leads to the lake. As the group is starting to get a bit hungry, I inquire about dining options. A somewhat elderly lady tells me there are 3 places to eat or drink something. She recommends the Seewiese to me and also briefly mentions that it is about a 45-minute walk. A quick consultation and everyone appears to agree. We take the road to the left along the lake. The trail is a gravel path and is easily walkable. The altimeters are also negligible.
What a beautiful place this is. The lake surrounded by the impressive mountains, … amazing !!! On the way, we are passed by the boat taking people to the Seewieze. As we approach our intermediate destination, we hear a band playing. This is exceptionally beautiful. The horn blaring turns out to be coming from a boat located just off the Seewieze. The sounds reverberate across the lake and echo on the mountains. Pure romance.
The 45 minutes are up and effective, there appears the Seewieze. The hungry are happy. We settle at a table outside on the terrace. The pictures on the menu caught my attention. My name is Bond, James Bond, … What is that one doing here? It turns out that Bad Altaussee lake was one of the filming locations of the movie Spectre. You make my day.

After a light meal, we walk on. What turns out? Actually, we went to eat at Jagdhaus Seewieze and not the restaurant Seewieze or how coincidence gave us another nice surprise. Taking a quick look at the menu. That one looks pretty good. It’s a higher price range though but this is definitely a place we should come back to. Quietly we continue our circular walk. Occasionally taking some nice pictures and then it’s back towards the car.
What a fun activity this was again.
