On this walk, we combine the spectacular Wörschachklamm gorge with the castle ruins. We walk along wooden steps and platforms amongst the steep cliffs and thundering waterfalls. Afterwards, we enjoy the magnificent view of the Ennstal Valley from the Wolkenstein castle ruins.
Natural spectacle, a castle ruin and vistas
The Wörschachklamm can be quite crowded. That’s why we only get here around 5pm. The car park is already largely deserted and the crowds have disappeared. The advantage is that we then have the gorge pretty much to ourselves and can take photos without too many tourists. Unlike the Donnersbachklamm, a visit to the Wörschachklamm is charged with an entry fee.
First, we walk through the gorge. As such, it is quite spectacular but is not very long. So do take your time to enjoy the spectacle of the water. At the end of the gorge, we come out onto a gravel path. Then we walk quite a bit through the forest. There are a few sections where a bit of climbing is required, but the walk is not technically difficult. Along the way, we come to a lovely viewpoint where we can catch our breath and take some panoramic photos of the beautiful Ennstall Valley.

We then continue walking to the castle ruinsWolkenstein was inhabited until 1750. After that, the castle fell into disrepair. The Burgverein Wolkenstein, an association with around 200 members based in Wörschach, has ensured that the ruins are once again accessible to visitors through restoration work and the clearing of scrub. From here we have a spectacular view on the Ennstal.

After that, we descend back to the car but on the way we take a few pictures of the knights and damsels.

There it was: the spectacular Wörschachklamm gorge and the castle ruins.
