Via the Forstweg to the Finsterkar Alm

You don’t have to search far to enjoy stunning views of the Donnersbach Valley, magnificent natural scenery and a remote mountain hut. This is what you can expect on the walk along the Forstweg to the Finsterkar Alm.
From Haus Erna along the Forstweg to the Finsterkar Alm
Put on your walking boots and walk past the Schaupphof to the main road. Turn right onto the main road. After about 200 metres, take the first road on the right (the Forstweg). This is a gravel track. Walk past the closed barrier and continue along this track. You’ll soon pass behind the Riesneralm Feriëndorf. The path continues to climb. Along the way, you’ll come across red-and-white markings. You can choose to follow these red-and-white markings or simply stick to the path. The red-and-white markings lead through the alpine meadows and the forest. They are generally steeper than the road, which means they are slightly shorter in distance. Along the way, you’ll enjoy some stunning views of the Donnersbach Valley. Make sure to them. After a brisk walk, you’ll arrive at the Finsterkaralm.
From the Finsterkaralm to the Berghof
Time seems to have stood still here. It’s a pity that this alpine hut is not open to the public. You can’t get anything to eat or drink here. You’d therefore be advised to bring a packed lunch. There is, however, a place to fill your water bottles. At the Finsterkar Alm, turn right towards the Berghof (the middle station of the Riesneralm). This path leads through the beautiful alpine meadows. After a short descent, you’ll first need to cross a small stream. Gradually, the alpine meadows give way to the forest. Simply continue along the path until you reach the mid-station of the Riesneralm (Berghof). Here you have a choice. Either take the lift down (do keep an eye on the opening hours: (Riesneralm Donnersbachwald – Sommersaison)), or walk down (an extra 1h30 via the main path, or an extra 45 minutes via the ski run).
